In a newspaper article I read about the project DiabDogs for the first time. As I used to keep me informed about diabetic warning dogs for quite some time already, I immediately got in touch with the responsible diabetologist, Mrs. Dr. Jolanta Wittek-
At this point in time I did not know that she visited one of my kickboxing events with 2 of her diabetes patients 2 years ago and therefore, knew me already and had kept me and the event in good memories.

After the first meeting a second one followed with more participants where I got to know all the people involved in this project. My positive first impression has intensified and in the meantime it has turned into full enthusiasm so that I confirmed my full support for the project.
Jolanta offered me her help in finding a suitable dog for me which I gratefully accepted. I did not have to wait a long time until I got a surprising phone call that Jolanta "found" an "adequate" dog living with one of her friends, a dog breeder in Poland: a 8 weeks old bloodhound puppy.
After one night and the exchange of several pictures I agreed to take this dog.
At the age of 9 weeks Candy moved in the house of dog trainer Sebastian Golisz where she was taught the dog ABC until the end of the year.In the first week of January I went to Danzig together with the DiabDog team to pick up Candy – since then she is accompanying me every day and I am taking her with me almost all the time and almost everywhere – work, training, events…
We are training and practising a lot and Candy is developing and performing very well.
With the help of this project, I also socialised with Dr. Daniel Neferu, who is an oculist specializing, among other things, in diabetes…
We recognized very quickly that we are also on the same wavelength and got along with each other very well. In the meantime Dr. Neferu is taking care for me as an athlete and he also decided to bear the costs for Candy’s education.
Thank you very much for this contribution!!!
